The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), is a special district responsible for public transit services and countywide transportation planning for Santa Clara County, California. It serves San Jose, California, and the surrounding Silicon Valley and operates seventy bus lines, three light rail lines, and sixty-two stations. In 2022, the VTA’s public transportation services had a combined ridership of 21,381,600, or about 85,800 per weekday.
In June 2021 VTA awarded Xentrans a long-term contract for Technology Professional Services encompassing mobile communications and ticketing/e-payment solutions. The first Task Order was to renew the on-board Wi-Fi solution on all light rail and bus vehicles during 2024-25.
In early 2022 Xentrans authored a detailed Scope of Work for a VTA Request for Proposal (RFP) for Vehicle Mobile Router Replacement. The Scope included detailed requirements for VTA to be able to access all data generated by the solution, using an Application Programming Interface (API), and based on the Xentrans Open Data Principle – baseline language developed by Xentrans for transit agency RFPs that ensures any procured solution’s data is completely accessible. Additionally the provision of access to all generated data via API enables the solution to be independently monitored for vendor adherence to contractual Service Level Agreements.
A contract was awarded to a vendor in 2023, and Xentrans will continue to provide oversight of the validation and installation processes in 2024 and beyond, through to successful implementation.
