Our colleagues at the California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP) have highlighted that the California Department of General Services (DGS) has issued a Draft Request for Proposals (RFP) for GTFS-Realtime software and optional hardware, and is are seeking industry comment.

GTFS-Realtime is the building block for seamless travel planning for riders, and allows agencies to generate and publish digestible data about where their vehicles are at any given moment. The Draft RFP includes vendor requirements to meet both the GTFS-Realtime Standard and the California GTFS Guidelines. It includes built-in reporting that meets the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) National Transit Database (NTD) requirements as well as California’s new SB125 requirements. The Draft RFP includes an optional hardware component, which would allow transit agencies to obtain devices on an as-needed basis while leaving open “bring-your-own” options to use existing hardware already installed on transit vehicles.
